I don’t use the title “Princess” lightly, I truly feel I have a right to use it. I will explain…
For years my family called me the Princess after the fairytale the Princess and the Pea because of my inability to sleep if there is so much as one crumb or piece of grit in my bed. I also have great difficulty sleeping in any bed other than my own. I am however able to sleep on an old foam mattress that came from god knows where. Against my initial misgivings we gave it a thorough detoxing, put two blankets under the sheet it turned out to be extremely comfortable and the answer to our visiting prayers. Now we could plonk it down on any floor and much to my husbands relief, I could get a decent nights sleep. Once discovered, we took to dragging it around when staying with friends and it has since become affectionately known as “the royal mattress”.
Failing that, at an absolute push, I can cope so long as I have my own pillows (they have their own suitcase for international travel) sheets (minimum 600 thread count) and feather duvet.
This explains the origins of the Princess title, not to mention my love of any depiction of the Princess and the Pea.
Later however I was to discover even more reason to use my rightful title. I will explain more. I was adopted as a baby and found my birth parents around 5 years ago. Turns out that on my mother side, the family can be traced directly back to Robert the Bruce. The KING of Scotland at the time. I think that makes me a DOUBLE Princess...no, really it does. Do the maths...then I also discover that on my fathers side, there is some shady, illegitimate connection to one of the Princes of the House of Windsor. Shady, illegitimate or not, hot damn, I am a TRIPLE Princess as far as I’m concerned and I’ll have anyone who suggests otherwise beheaded…
